If God is on your side, what do you have to worry about?

If God is on your side, what do you have to worry about?

Romans 8:31

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

He’s Your Advocate

It is not a matter of “if” we sin but “when” we sin, and we all do, as you already know (1 John 1:8, 10). When we sin, we have an Advocate in Jesus Christ, Who “pleads our case before the Father” (1 John 2:1). If Jesus is for you, who could ever be against you (Rom. 8:31)? The answer to that rhetorical question is, of course, no one! Who would you rather have than the sinless, spotless Son of God to go before the Father on your behalf? Who is going to ever condemn you? The answer is no one because of the One Who both died for us and is interceding for us (Rom. 8:34). Since Jesus is God and God is on your side, what would you ever have to worry about?

He’s Your Mediator

Years ago when a major sports league went on strike, they called in a federal mediator. He helped to settle the dispute between the two parties, although both sides were less than satisfied. That’s what mediators do. But our Mediator is Jesus Christ, Who entered into the holy of holies with His own blood (Heb. 9:12) and completely satisfied the Father with the perfect, atoning sacrifice for us. There is only one Mediator between man and God. It isn’t you or me; otherwise, we’d be in big trouble. No, the only Mediator between us and God is “the Man Jesus Christ” (1 Tim. 2:5) so that on the day of His appearing, we have no need of any shame and can have confidence (1 John 2:28).

He’s at Your Side

When I was being picked on in elementary school, my big brother came to my side and warned my classmates not to pick on me anymore. I felt pretty safe when he was with me, but when he wasn’t, I was plenty worried. With Jesus at your side, what do you have to worry about? Who could ever bring any charge against you if Christ is with you (Rom. 8:33), being the Just and the Justifier (Rom. 3:26)? Who could ever condemn those for whom Christ died (Rom. 8:34)? Who could ever separate you from Christ (Rom. 8:35)? There is absolutely no one and nothing that ever could (Rom. 8:38-29). So if God is on your side, what do you have to worry about? The universal symbol for nothing is the answer: zero.

A Closing Prayer

Father, I am so glad that Jesus is for me as my Advocate, my Mediator and He’s by my side. I thank You that He died for me, and I praise You. In His holy name I pray.

Amen
